The tracks behind Loftus Oval and in the Royal National Park are a fantastic place to ride, especially for beginners, but there is enough excitement for more advanced riders too. There is a circuit that follows some firetrails, but there are also smaller, narrower trails that are a lot of fun to ride as well.
Difficulty: Moderate – hard
Duration: 1-5 hrs
Start: Loftus Oval (loop)
Park at the oval carpark (if driving). Go behind the goal posts closest to the carpark, and turn left towards the railway tracks, and cross them following a single track east.
Follow the track east, and eventually you will hit the fire trails. The Temptation Creek Fire trail heads east down to the creek, and then rises sharply again.
Follow this track, and if you take each right turn you will do a loop that eventually returns to the carpark.
Alternatively, you can follow the single trails around and explore. It is hard to get lost in here as the area is bounded by the fire trails.
How to get there:
Train: There is a train station at Loftus, and this is a great option. From the train station cross the highway using the pedestrian overpass and ride in a southerly direction beside the highway. Enter the carpark at Lotus Oval, and keep to the left of the oval, crossing the tramlines and onto the tracks.
Car: If you are driving head down the Princes Highway, and park at Loftus Oval.
