The place where surfing began in Australia in 1915. Freshwater is a pleasant beach that is popular, but not as busy as Manly and Dee Why. It is a good beach for surfing when conditions are good. Swimming can be hazardous, so stay between the flags. Freshwater Beach is in the area named Curl Curl by the Kuringai people.

How to get there:
Bus: Take a bus to Warringah Mall – express buses from Wynyard Station, such as the L90 and L88 are generally quicker. Get off at Warringah Mall stop and take a 139 or 156 to Harbord (Freshwater).
Car: By road from the city, head north along Military Road and Spit Road across the Spit Bridge and onto Burnt Bridge Deviation, which turns into Condamine St. Turn right onto Kentwell, and right again onto Pittwater Road. Turn left onto Oliver St, right onto Cavill St, left onto Crown Rd, left onto Dowling St, right onto Undercliff Rd, and left onto Charles St. You will need to pay for parking if parking in one of the carparks.
